A Look at the history of sport fishing in the Great Lakes

In the 1960’s a shift occurred in the Great Lakes area.  Up until this time, the Great Lakes had been primarily used for commercial fishing and as a dumping ground for urban waste.  However, as the Nation started to become more environmentally friendly, the Great Lakes underwent an evolution.  The Great Lake region became crowded with fishermen and tourists.  Sports fishing took control of the Great Lakes region through the addition of new game fish species, the economic boost, and the new regulations set in place.
